ABOUT THE BRIEF

Built for businesses that want to move with intention.

(01.) Our Story.

Because the business behind the brand matters.

The Brief was built around a simple idea: before deciding what to create, change, launch, or grow, you need to understand the business behind the decision. Founders are often asked to make big decisions while carrying too many moving pieces at once, and without clear strategy, even the right next step can feel harder than it should.

The name comes from the kind of work The Brief was created to do. A business brief gives direction. A creative brief gives shape to an idea. An editorial brief brings clarity to a message. A legal brief organizes facts, arguments, and strategy into something persuasive and actionable. Across every version, a brief takes complexity and turns it into direction.

That is the foundation of how we work: ask the right questions, look at the larger picture, and turn scattered thoughts into a clear plan, so the next step becomes easier to take.

(02.) Our Founder

Meet Jen.

Jen founded The Brief to bring business, communications and law into the same conversation, because the best decisions rarely sit in just one of them.

Her career has lived where all three meet. Inside local law firms, she supported business formation matters and worked alongside firm leadership on operations, special projects, staff training, and the communications that kept the firm visible. In nonprofit advocacy, she built community partnerships and supported clients from first contact through final follow-up. She has also trained teams and built customer loyalty on the front lines of a high-volume business.

That range shows up in every Brief. For founders who are launching, she brings a firsthand understanding of what goes into forming a business, plus business planning experience that includes presenting plans to judges at local and national entrepreneurship competitions. For brands finding their identity, she has created visual templates, presentations, and materials for organizations, and is the person colleagues, friends, and peers turn to when their resumes, LinkedIn profiles, and personal stories need sharpening. For businesses ready to grow, she has built SOPs, training materials, and hands-on workshops, set up and mastered the tools businesses run on, tracked results, and created the client care that keeps customers coming back.

Her education ties it all together, and she earned it while working. Her first job was an after-school internship at a law firm in high school, and she kept working through college and law school. She began as a business major, studying management, marketing, economics, finance, accounting, and information systems, then moved into interdisciplinary studies, pairing business with communications, from public speaking and professional communication to conflict resolution and small group dynamics. Law school added legal research, writing, and analysis, plus contracts and international business, along with the habit she brings to every client: read closely, weigh the details and the risks, and apply what she knows to the situation in front of her.

Leadership and service have run through every chapter of her life. She has led student organizations since high school, including serving as social chair and publicity co-chair of Kappa Delta Chi, a Latina-founded service and leadership sorority. She grew up volunteering with the American Cancer Society, now gives her time to Make-A-Wish, and stays involved in her community wherever she calls home. She works the way she volunteers: show up, listen first, and follow through.

Off the clock, she's planning the next trip or exploring the ideas, places, and industries that shape how businesses are built and perceived.

“Better decisions come from seeing more than one side.”

(03.) Our Approach

Look at the whole business.

A brand decision can affect growth. A marketing challenge can reveal a positioning problem. A new opportunity can raise questions about strategy, operations and presentation. We work with those connections in mind.
